In the tutorial 3, I had learned about how to design a poster through the MS Word. The topic is design a poster to promote an OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE.

Therefore, I come out with this simple designed poster and one slogan as lecturer requested.

REAL PLAYER

The open source software that I promoted is REAL PLAYER. As we know, REAL player is a well-known player to play the movie and song. Besides that, REAL player also can download, manage media, simple editing, share, record video and etc.
Moreover, I had created one slogan for REAL player, which is matched with the alphabet of "REAL". My slogan is Real player Emphasize Aspire Life. This simple and meaningful slogan are combination of each starting alphabet of words in the sentence.

In the nutshell, the suggestion given by lecturer are: A good designed poster should be come out with a feeling of simple designed with straight forward message.

Today what I had learned in my tutorial class is about Paint. Based on the Wikipedia, Paint is an image painting application and often referred to as Microsoft Paint which is a simple graphics painting software that included in Microsoft Windows. Paint opens and saves files as Windows bitmap (24-bit, 256 colour, 16 colour and monochrome, all with the .bmp extension), JPEG, GIF, PNG and TIFF. Due to its simplicity, Paint became one of the most used applications in the early versions of Windows and no denying that every computer or laptop provided Paint software.

During the whole lesson of editing tutorial, I learned about how to use Paint tools to edit the image.

First of all, I use the "Magnifier" tool to change the magnification for a part of the image. Next, use the "Color Picker" to pick the colour from the image and use the colour for drawing or make up by using "Brushes". By follow this steps repeatly, we manage to make the image looks better and nice because we can add or remove some features into the image.

From CD-ROM to WORLD WIDE WEB

Multimedia is shifting from localized (contained on a CD-ROM) to being distributed (available on the World Wide Web). What are some of the implications of this? Who will have access to the presentation? How will you keep it secure? How will you distribute it?

Answer:

Based on the Wikipedia, in common usage, multimedia refers to a combination of media including video, images, audio, text in such a way that can be accessed interactively. Some of the computers which were marketed in the 1990s were called "multimedia" computers because they incorporated a CD-ROM drive, which allowed for the delivery of several hundred megabytes of video, picture and audio data.

The implications of multimedia being shifted from CD-ROM to World Wide Web is company able to manage their business in a more systematic ways with the most cost-effectively way. With the availability of distributed multimedia, people nowadays able to gain knowledge and get the informations in a much more easier and faster way. Besides that, company can have widespread market that allow to capture more customer from all around the world. By using World Wide Web, the cost problems of packaging, distributing, production of CD, copyright and etc can be eliminated and solved in nature way. Therefore, company can be more flexible and response to customer in a short period.

In the 21st century, human being is stepping out of industrial civilization at a surprising speed into an information technology era with great innovation. People around the world can access to the presentation as long as people have connection to Internet. However, web developers are using web 2.0 technology which allow the interactive communication among people and it actually more secure. However, in order to keep it secure, the owner of website also can create a space for users to fill up their information database before they log in the website or install firewall to maintain the security and safety of website.

Lastly, company or individuals can distribute informations very fast and cheap by World Wide Web. For better distribute, we can use different kind of advertising in all websites or sending email. History and Future of MULTIMEDIA

Briefly discuss the history and future of multimedia. How might multimedia be used to improve the lives of its users? How might it influence users in negative ways? What might be its shortcomings?

Answer :

Multimedia is technology, content, applications, and people. It encompasses many concepts and ideas that are important to understand. Multimedia is incorporating 2 or more of the following elements:
(a) Sound
(b) Text
(c) Pictures
(d) Animation

Based on the Wikipedia, the term 'Multimedia' was created by a singer and artist Bob Goldstein in July 1966. In the intervening forty years, the term of 'Multimedia' has taken on different meanings. However, 'Multimedia' took on its current meaning in the 1990s. In the 1993 first edition of McGraw-Hill's Multimedia: Making It Work, Tag Vaughan declared "Multimedia is any combination of text, graphic art, sound, animation, and video that is delivered by computer. When you allow the user to control what and when these elements are delivered, it is Interactive Multimedia. When you provide a structure of linked elements through which user can navigate, interactive multimedia will becomes hypermedia. In addition, multimedia technology has changed the way we look at the computers. Computer developers started looking to multimedia as a way to utilize computers in a uniquely personal way.

Yet, there is no simple answer for the future of multimedia. The future of multimedia will depend mostly on the development of current technology. It is absolutely important to many fields especially education, shopping and retail, entertainment, communications and etc. In this technology advanced environment, many multimedia tools are involved when organising the events or activities such as lecture in class, open ceremony, seminar, presentation and others that may combine all forms of media content. For instance, multimedia is used to produce computer-based training course and reference books like encyclopedia and almanacs in education field; multimedia is used to develop special effects in movies and animations in the entertainment industry; and multimedia is used in future for worldwide voice and video communication (eg: internet telephone and video phone system). As we can see, the impact of multimedia technology on our daily lives is often more than what we realize and expect. The future of multimedia online is at present, video is rather primitive, but in future users will be able to interact visually with people from all over the world. Multimedia do not replacing human contact; rather, it will supplement it by allowing users to interact in ways and places that would otherwise be impossible and same goes to other elements of multimedia.

In my opinion, multimedia can improve the lives of users in its applications. Firstly, multimedia is used as a common source of reference. Encyclopedias, directories, dictionaries and electronic books are among common multimedia references. Multimedia is also used in education and training. The application of multimedia make the learning has become more interesting and effective with educational programmes. Besides that, as I mentioned as above, entertainment industry produce computer games, and develop animations or special effects for cartoons and movies.

Moreover, multimedia applications also used widely in scientific research to improve the condition of sick people. In medicine field, doctors can practice or be trained in performing high-risk surgery by using virtual surgery.

Nowadays, many advertising companies develop and distribute catalogues in the form of CD-ROM as it is more interesting to the consumers and provided more detailed informations.

In addition, multimedia applications have greatly benefited those with low vision as it helps them in performing tasks normally in their daily lives. Therefore, for those users who have vision problems, they can use the multimedia for their educational and rehabilitation program to improve their standard of living.

Nevertheless, multimedia also might influence users in negative ways. Nowadays, there are a lot of people use the multimedia invention and advanced technology in the wrong ways. For instance, peoples nowadays like to use their smart phone or camera to record some incident that happened around them and publish the video to 'Facebook' or 'Youtube' which is a way to violating human being right. Besides violating the victim's privacy, this kind of unethical action also may affect their personal dignity. In addition, the advanced multimedia software ( eg: Photoshop, Dreamweaver and etc) help the users to edit, cut or merge the real picture in order to create the fake story which can affect personal image. For example, the paparazzi like to use those software to create some value of the news to attract readers and increase their sales volume.

Furthermore, using multimedia in the wrong way also come out with some shortcomings. Nowadays, in the education field, most of the school use multimedia teaching make up the traditional teaching of the defects, which greatly improved the efficiency of classroom teaching and teaching quality. However, we should take note that there are some traditional applications can not be ignored, mainly in the following aspects: over-reliance on multimedia teaching aids, focus on form and ignoring the effect and rich in resources but lesson planning is not sufficient. Besides that, multimedia invention might always be misuse by society and organizations. For example, the negative effects of addiction are portrayed through advertisements. Newspapers, television or even the Internet are used to convey or transmit the social messages to people but ended up the messages are reaches the masses in the wrong way. Therefore, there is another shortcoming that positively influenced by the media while there are others who take the wrong message from it.

In the conclusion, multimedia has contributed a lot to people and society. Therefore, users should not be misuse the multimedia while should appreciate the invention of multimedia. There is no denying the importance of multimedia technology on our daily lives is often more than what we realize and expect.
